Farooque has over four decades of experience with HSBC in the Middle East. As Head of Credit International he led corporate credit and risk management, with strong oversight over the Bank’s substantial corporate credit portfolio for the Middle East.
An integral member of the top leadership team at HSBC, and well regarded for his repertoire of historic market knowledge, Farooque has been a leading authority on matters of wholesale credit and risk management coupled with his sound knowledge of the local and regional credit culture.
By this virtue, he has had the privilege to be the de facto advisor toExecutive Directors, CEOs and the top teams at the MENA regional and country level.
Across his tenure as Head of Corporate Credit, his significant contributions towards preservation and growth in assets while maintaining strong credit quality, have consistently been acknowledged by Executive leadership and synonymously, independent internal and external audit reviews.
He next leveraged his multi-decade experience to drive transformation as de-facto head of credit and risk function at a leading international bank in the GCC, over a period of 4 years.
Through his career, Farooque has delivered credit risk evaluations and approvals for multinationals, local governments, large regional corporate entities as well as small and medium enterprises. Credit experience coverage incudes international trade, project finance, syndicated loans, property finance, structured trade, contract finance and Islamic banking, reinforced with restructuring of distressed debts and rehabilitation of problem accounts to secure loss recoveries through turnarounds.
Farooque joined HSBC in 1976 and worked in Operations and Finance across various roles.
