Raj has prominent expertise in Operational Risk and Compliance domain, meticulously acquired over his distinguished 4 decade career with HSBC Commercial Banking in the Middle East, based out of UAE.

His last 5 year stint as Senior Manager Operational Risk, involved rigorous country oversight for the bank’s prominent wholesale banking relevant business risk and control management for UAE.

Raj’s extensive experience in UAE banking operations, draws on his core expertise in operational governance, planning and management, complemented with incisive analytical skills in developing and managing operational controls. As a leader, he has cultivated strong teams in Operational Risk, Trade Finance and Credit Administration, ensuring success in restricting operational risks well within targets.

His watch over wholesale banking’s operational risk frame-work ensured benchmarking regulatory & industry standards for embedding robust operational risk culture, setting operational risk strategy with risk appetite and embedding of control standards. He has been member of Fraud Risk investigation committee.

In his tenure as Head of Trade Finance operations, Raj contributed his experience of documentary trade credits, collections and guarantees to complement business in structuring specific contractual arrangements across diverse and complex transactions.

As Head of Credit Administration for Wholesale Banking, with coverage across circa 4k borrowing customers (Islamic and Conventional), Raj ensured a strong discipline on pre-drawdown compliance with contractual documentation, terms and conditions. He also led the project for successful ‘offshoring’ of credit operations services.

He was assigned in 2018 for a year, by a leading international bank in the GCC to streamline their global trade finance related policies, processes and procedures.

Raj is a duly accredited ‘Business Risk and Control Manager”, having represented the Bank at top Risk Forums and at ‘Themed Audits’.
